As you practice Self-Breema, and one or more
of the Breema principles becomes alive for you,
you start to let go of “extra”—of tension, anxiety, fear, apprehension, and unwanted thoughts and feelings. You become more alive. Your body relaxes. You have more energy and a greater sense of presence. You experience a state of balance in your mind, feelings, and body that gives you more vitality.
These changes come with connection to the body.
Through connection to the body, the experience
of “I have a body” becomes real. Once you recognize the enormous value of connection to the body and the effect this connection has on the way you experience your life, the desire naturally arises to extend the influence of Self-Breema into your daily life.
By practicing Self-Breema exercises, you become
accustomed to working with the principles, and
the taste of connection to the body becomes more
familiar. This familiarity enables you to take
the principles of Self-Breema and begin using
them in other activities.
Any activity of the
body can become Self-Breema. The body is always
active, always manifesting. It constantly provides
you with the opportunity to actualize
the principles and realize connection to the body.
When you sit down to tie your shoes, or to
eat, you have a chance to register that your
body is sitting, breathing, and has
weight. When you reach to pick up the phone,
to turn a doorknob, or to lift a glass of water,
you can practice Single Moment/Single Activity,
Firmness and Gentleness, Body Comfortable, or
any of the other principles.
Bringing Self-Breema into your daily life,
you become grateful for all the situations that
require or allow you to use
your body. Each movement becomes another opportunity
to practice Self-Breema. Each tiny moment in
which you introduce a principle into a daily
activity should be appreciated, because you overcame
the usual way of doing things mechanically, without
being present. No matter what state you find
your mind, feelings, or body in at the time you
remember, there is something you can do in the
direction of making your activity into Self-Breema,
of coming more to the present. With practice,
your confidence and ability grow, and you find
that you can continue to keep the principles
alive for the duration of a small activity, like
getting up from a chair.
Eventually, some of the routine activities
that you succeed in turning into Self-Breema
may remind you of your desire
to be connected to the body. You begin to move,
and suddenly you remember. These moments you
take from the mechanical flow of life and transform into Self-Breema help you become more present and alive.
