Essence of Breema: June 2005

excerpts from classes at the Breema Center

Your body is simply an aspect of consciousness, manifesting in the dimensions of energy and matter. Energy and matter cannot be separated from consciousness. You practice Breema bodywork and Self-Breema so your body can receive this knowledge. You are not what you think. What you appear to be is just a temporary expression, a passing expression of what you are in reality. Your reality is realizable. You can’t realize through your mind, feelings, or senses. You realize in your Being, and your Being doesn’t interpret words. It receives emanation. That’s how it knows what is true and what isn’t. You can say correct things, but that doesn’t make them truth. Your Being has to resonate with what’s said.

When you do Breema, of course there are sensations. Your hands are receiving sensory information. But you could receive that sensory input as an impression, without interpreting it. Then there are thoughts. Thoughts flow in and out, bringing many associations and images of the past and future. Your feelings are active too, coming and going, liking and disliking. But all of this could take place in the background, while you have a consciousness that is not a thought, feeling, or sensation. That consciousness is aware of the thoughts, feelings, and sensations, but it does not identify itself with them. When this consciousness is present, you are present. You exist. And the body is doing Breema.

When you get something from practicing Breema and Self-Breema, you have to keep it alive. Because mass consciousness has already conditioned you to react to things in the same old way. But because of having Breema in your life, something new has sprouted. You have to nurture it, so it can grow. As it grows, the influence of mass consciousness becomes a food you can use. When a plant has grown strong it can even extract some nutrients from garbage that’s been thrown on the ground. But when it’s very young, it can only handle good fertilizer. You need to keep Breema alive, by practicing it at least a little every day, so you can grow with it. Otherwise, the influence gradually diminishes. Nothing in the universe stays the same for even a fraction of a second. Everything is changing, either growing or diminishing. If you keep going with Breema, Self-Breema, and the Nine Principles, you find a more and more active posture towards your life, and more and more you live your life in the present.
