Thinking that when the body is tired, “I am tired,” that when the body is sick, “I am sick,” actually has a bad effect on the physiological body, because of the fear and worry and imagination that goes with it. Identification with the body brings suffering and misery. And there’s no particular merit in misery.

But the Consciousness that sees “there is a body” makes you free from identification with the condition of the body, because the emphasis is on the knowledge that something exists—the body is, and then whatever you add after that is secondary; the body has fever, the body is hungry. But you have life.
