How to Share an Instagram Story on Instagram and Facebook

Follow these instructions to share an Instagram/Facebook Story:

  • First you want to open the Instagram Story image file and save the image in your photo library on your phone. If you have created the image on your desktop, you can email or text the image and open it on your mobile device. If the image has been shared with you via text, email, slack, or other program, open the image on that app on your mobile device. Save the image to your photo library.
  • Second, open your Instagram account on your mobile device.
  • Once logged in to your Instagram account on your mobile device, look at the main circle in your profile (usually where your picture is). There’s a little “plus” button located in the bottom of your profile circle.
  • Click the "+" button and it will open up your camera app.
  • Look at the bottom left hand side of the camera and click on the photos library icon.
  • NOTE:  You must enable the camera and microphone in the Instagram application settings.
  • You’ll then be asked where you want the image to “send to”.
• A menu will appear with “your story/sharing options”. Click “share”.
  • You can share to your facebook account if you’ve connected it by clicking “share” next to the facebook page.
  • If you want to “highlight” the story to your Instagram account, check “add to highlights” and give your highlight a name. You’ll want to remove the highlight after the post is no longer applicable to an event you're promoting.
  • Lastly, click "Done".
  • NOTE: Instagram stories are only shared for 24 hours, although they can be shared by anyone with access to the image. It is effective to share close to your event happening.
